Freebie for Windows Mobile devices

If you have a Windows Mobile-powered device, from your mobile browser, go to:
wls.live.com
and download the little Live Search proggy. It says WinMobile only for the time being, although there was a java version of the program listed, so if you have a phone that supports java you may want to go for it.
Seems a bit like Google Maps for mobiles, but I can zoom in more closely and the clarity is better (at least for Los Angeles-area, YMMV).
Anyway, worth checking out.
Also, if you are a T-mobile Dash owner like me (HTC Excalibur), T-mo will be offering a free upgrade to WM6 in the next few months. You can of course download versions of it now, but if you want to wait for the official version.... Anyway, nice to know they're going to throw in an official upgrade.

Date: 2007-02-13 12:19 am (UTC)I'm not getting excited about Apple's phone until I see it. First, Cingular's data plans are freakin' outrageous compared to T-Mo's, so the only way I'd get it is if I could unlock it. Then in my experience, for my use anyway, touchscreens have generally turned out to be more annoying(and fingerprints an OCD nightmare). I also think a touchscreen keyboard is a horrible idea for me as I'm not a hunt & peck typist.
I might've gotten excited about it having OS X under the hood (initially was), but any hope of that was killed when Apple announced that their phone will be locked down so that you cannot install user applications on it. That alone would prevent me from purchasing it. They're obviously going to try to lock you into buying everything from them/Cingular.

Date: 2007-02-13 12:33 am (UTC)I get pretty good coverage in L.A. with T-mo though. GSM frequencies don't penetrate buildings as well, so the only times i really have trouble are when I'm deep inside a building. My Dash seems to get better coverage and hold a signal a bit better than my MDA does, which might be largely due to my fingers not blocking the antenna when typing!
