"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall."
Jun. 5th, 2004 03:30 pmSetting discussions regarding some of his social policies aside for a moment, this country (and the world really) owes a deep debt of gratitude to President Ronald Reagan. I think he is largely the reason our generations, unlike our parents, were able to grow up without the fear of the "cold war," nuclear Armageddon, and the spread of Communism.
I'm sure there are many who will prefer to attack him on issues here and thereno leader is perfect. However, for the moment, I don't want to detract from the things he did accomplish, which were amazing. History recorded him a great leader who brought the country together during difficult times, who helped bring down the former Soviet Union (compare that to the idiot we have in office today).
I also sincerely hope the country will listen to Nancy Reagan's pleas to stop tying science's hands and overturn W's ill-conceived executive order that slowed stem cell research that could help prevent others from having to suffer diseases such as Alzheimer's.
