LOL. That was Jon's sign tonight at the rally protesting Bush's call for amending our constitution. Brilliant. Now, if French Connection will sell the shirt....

here's a pic of the crowd

yay for bad cell phone pictures

Anyway, I don't know how much longer I can stay in this party. I hang on because I believe in less government intrusion into our lives. I do believe that capitalism is the best economic system around (with rules and boundaries and setting those boundaries is the role of government). I hang on because I hope to have an influence and help elect sane nominees for the elections. If all gays leave the Republican Party, then we have a constant enemy.

But the party's been taken over by social engineers, religious extremists, and outright bigots. I was reading some of the hate mail Margaret Cho received after the moveon.org event from conservatives. The homophobia and racism are downright sickening. That's not to say the right has the lock on hatred, but it does seem so much more prevalent and venemous.

I'd go Libertarian, but two three problems: (1) I'm not that extreme, and I don't think the free market will work everything out (government has to establish rules and set boundaries). (2) Despite its weaknesses, I do believe that the two-party system serves a purpose and helps polarize us to keep two divergent forces pulling in different directions. And, if that assclown Ralph Nader weren't around in 2000, we wouldn't have Bush in office right now. And (3), they're all INSANE!

meh. I wish there weren't such a socialist influence in the Democratic Party. But, hey, maybe I could help vote for sane nominees in that party instead — a party that doesn't make me embarrassed to be a part of it on an almost daily basis; a party that doesn't ritualistically denigrate me. Honestly, lately it almost feels like battered spouse syndrome where you just stick around and stick around despite the abuse.

I need to do some more soul searching. But I'm definitely staying in long enough to vote against Bush in the primary. I know it's a throw away, but it will feel sooooo good punching that vote against W. I just need to find out who's running against him here.

"I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the Earth." -Thomas Jefferson

This was sent to me by my friend Tony...

With all the news on TV lately about the sub zero weather and snow that the east coast and upstate NY areas are experiencing, we shouldn't forget that Southern California has it's share of devastating weather also.

Here is a photo illustrating the excessive damage caused to a home from the rain storm that passed through the Los Angeles area a couple of days ago. It really makes you cherish what you have, and reminds us not to take life for granted.
